We are incredulous.  Flabbergasted.  Terrified, even.  But, kind of excited too.
In speaking to Jeff, CEO of BuildDirect, it appears that he is fully in favour of the chicken idea.  But, clearly there are some practical concerns.  For instance, what about bird safety?  Well, we’ve made sure that any chickens on our outdoor laminate flooring will [...]

Today’s installment of Watch Us Wreck a Floor is kind of what they call a microcosm; it sums up what the whole thing’s about, all within one episode. Of course, this means that our Marc is going to break a lot of stuff on the floor to see what it will take to wreck it. With his bare hands. Take a look:

In the spirit of hospitality, we invited Ian Watt to come by to check out our floor. Ian is a local Realtor in the Vancouver area, focusing on condos. He’s also a podcaster and you can see his shows on his website at ianwatt.ca. In any case, his first question to us was perhaps the most obvious one: who are we trying to impress?

Anyway, Kye Grace helped us set up our watch us wreck a floor live feed, so that you can keep tabs on the state of the floor and watch some of our events live too.

As we foretold – or, as our local meteorological community have foretold – it’s snowing here in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. It’s arrived just in time to settle peacefully on our Toklo 12mm laminate flooring, which we’ve ill-advisedly installed outside on our penthouse patio. Here’s Marc, paying his dues as our resident floor sweeper and weather expert, to explain this fine state of affairs:

If I didn’t mention that Matt is a hero, then I’d like to do so now.  Matt, you’re a hero.
He’s got quite a lot of experience in laying down laminate flooring, in addition to his work in the wood flooring department at BuildDirect.  He even installed mine at home! And now, he’s been roped into [...]

Let’s get something out in the open, just for clarity. When we say that we’re going to install a laminate floor on the outside patio of our offices, we’re being way goofy. Under normal circumstances, it’s just not a smart thing to do. But, in the case of the usual laminate flooring installation, here’s Marc with a few points about proper subfloors:

Before we destroy our laminate floor by installing it outside to face the merciless elements, and then really start in on wrecking our floor, we thought we’d explain how laminate flooring is designed. Here’s Marc, and in his blue cowboy shirt today too.

As you know, all laminate flooring is tested, and then given what’s called an AC Rating, which is short for ‘abrasion class’. And here’s Marc to go over some of the major tests which we will of course imitate. Well, sort of imitate…

The flooring has been ordered. It’s like a fly buzzing it’s way closer to the web of the spider. We’ll let you know when it lands!
